Friday Afternoon Bus Tour Option (Only Available for Physical Fall Forum Attendees) If not enough people sign up, money will be refunded. You liked the "Surviving" movie, now see the lake! This trip is in lieu of the Truckee River Walk (above). They occur simultaneously. This trip is about an hour each way with an hour to explore at the lake museum. Visitors can learn more about the lake’s fascinating history and its native inhabitants, the Paiute Indian tribe. Learn why the Paiute people hold the lake and the surrounding area as a sacred place. It includes an informative talk by museum director Billie Jean Guerrero. The lake also has a breeding ground for one of the largest American White Pelican colonies and is a certified National Wildlife Refuge.
Sunday Bus Tour Option includes box lunch (Only Available for Physical Fall Forum Attendees) If not enough people sign up, money will be refunded. This is a wonderful tour of Lake Tahoe and the beautiful surrounding area. Tour departs Reno and travels up Mt. Rose as the local guide narrates and points out interesting sights along the way. There will be shorts stops along the shore of Lake Tahoe to enjoy taking pictures and looking at the scenery. After leaving the shores of Lake Tahoe, the tour continues over Spooner Summit and down the mountain to Nevada's State Capital, Carson City. This historic town is known for its unique capital building and mint. Then we will be off to discover Virginia City to explore the past! Established in 1859, Virginia City became the richest mining town in the world. San Francisco was built from the mines of the Comstock and the Civil War was partially financed from the gold and silver discovered beneath the city. Today's Virginia City is remarkably the same as it was during its heyday with wooden sidewalks, restored mansions, and “Old West” saloons. Mark Twain began his illustrious writing career at Virginia City's own "Territorial Enterprise." There are several little museums, shops, mansions, and churches in this richly historic town. It is a great place to have your box lunch, take a trolley ride or mine tour, or do some shopping.
